“The last thing you want to be is just well-adjusted to injustice.” Just fitting in, adapted to indifference”- Cornel West
“Indifference to evil is more insidious than evil itself” – Abraham Heschel
“Indifference is the one trait that makes the very angels weep” – William James
Post practice journaling this morning:
He is not the cause, he is a symptom, a product of our imbalance. Our dis-ease to systemic disease. The cumulative catastrophe from the genocide of indigenous peoples – America’s original sin, of 400 years of slavery, to Jim Crow, from predatory capitalism, hetero-patriarchy, oligarchic and pending totalitarian rule, to the military and medical industrial complex, poverty, 1 in 5 American children without access to healthy food and on and on. We are indifferent and numb or we are in fear and lashing out, shouting All Lives Matter!
Reactive energy stuck in scarcity real or imagined, fear-based
Fear outwardly manifested in hatred & greed
Where property trumps sacred human life
Scapegoats are always the other:
Immigrants, people of color, muslims, the LGTBQ+ community
Easy distraction targets, perpetuating denial and violence toward the most vulnerable communities
The cause is trauma, a primary root trauma of not being seen and heard as holy beings
Part of Solution:
Not more separation
Not more war, now only for corporate wealth & defense industry stock holders, war that creates the terrorist response.
Not more militarized police
Not more prisons
For African Americans we need to dismantle racism.
Part of solution is seeing one another. Listening to one another. Listening and talking to your other.
Solution in self interrogation. Feel what comes up. Feel the sensations in your body, observe and maintain the breath.
Part of the solution is the reallocation of funds to vulnerable communities, toward safe housing, water and food access. A living wage. And end to Animal Ag subsidies, reallocating to local organic farming. Free access to medical care. Free access to education.
Protest/support peaceful protesters. Don’t go back to sleep. Vote and vote out most incumbents on both sides. Join community movements. Support Black Lives Matter.
Listen to black leaders, read their works. Watch 13th on Netflix or YouTube. I Am Not Your Negro on Amazon. Just Mercy.
Start a meditation practice. Commit to 5 minutes a day, slowly work up to 20. Routine.
Walk, appreciate nature daily.
Drink water, phase out intoxicants, processed foods and animal products
Connect with other humans in tolerated doses.
Listen, inwardly and outwardly
May we see and hear one another.
See one another as holy beings. One human family.
Triggered? Go back to your breath. Ask for help. Be gentle. We are all apart of this. Racism is within all of us. We all have work to do. It is beautiful and essential work. Do you want to go down loving or hating? Do you want to go down in fear with hatred smothering your heart or in fierce loving courage? May we choose the latter.
There is a peaceful love warrior within all of us. Even within Trump.
A prayer for a reclamation of fierce love for all perfectly imperfect human beings, fierce love and service to all sentient beings and our Mother Earth.
Peaceful warrior protests & civil disobedience. Non-violence towards all. Kindness & compassion for self and the other.
Has everyone watched 13th?
We can not be silent in this moment. We need to believe in the power of love and listen. And stand together. Stand in front of all those who are oppressed & in danger. In front of our African American brothers and sisters. In front of our LGTBQ+ brothers and sisters and non-binary persons. Doctors have been told to stay in their lane and not post politically. I can not be silent. We need to stand for justice. Shine a light on the causes of disease. Our biggest cause is our predatory capitalistic system that relies on racist & speciesist policies to survive. This includes the pharmaceutical, animal Ag, carbon fuel, banking & student loan industries. We need to fight to end racism & speciesism within medicine. Within our communities, our criminal justice system, our educational system, our governing bodies. We need to love one another and fight this corporate systemic predatory capitalism that has taken over medicine and is destroying this country. Awaken to love. Forgive. Go within and feel. Educate. Listen! Do not remain silent any longer. I am not a democrat or republican. The 2 party system is a sham. Both parties are bought and share the same donor class. We need non-violent collective mobilization and civil disobedience. We need from the bottom up love warriors of change. Let’s stay curious & mindful of our daily actions. Our learned racist thoughts and beliefs. Our own internal gangster within. We are all perfectly imperfect holy beings. We are all children of the Creator. We share this spectacular but never more threatened home, planet Earth. May we return to love. Return to non-violence & kindness. Cry, feel it all. Stay curious of how much time we are numbed by intoxicants, TV & social media. Reconnect with nature. Practice listening. Seeing others fully as the holy beings that they are. We are one family. Feel a future that contains justice. A just democracy. That eliminates systemic predatory capitalism that relies on racism & speciesism to survive. That protects our shared home. Feel access to clean water and safe housing, living wages for all. Feel value returned to sacred character and not commodification. We can do this. We are all here at this time for a reason. May we not let this moment pass. Not succumb to the scapegoating tactics at play. If you die today believing the lies: that immigrants are the problem, that people of color are the problem, that Islam is the problem – you will die with hatred dominating your consciousness. Is that how you want to die? Hating other human beings. We can hate the ideology. Hate white supremacy. Hate the greed of our corporate predatory system but love one another. Love yourself. May we support each other, help each other heal so that the hatred of others may pass on. So that we may be reborn in our birthright of love & compassion. That is a life worth living, that extends beyond personal financial wealth and property. A life for justice. A life of integrity. A life of service. Miracles through action. I love Dr Cornwell West and every time I hear him speak I learn something new or remember what is sacred and forgotten. I encourage everyone to listen to him.
These are 2 of my most loved voices in America today. This is a conversation from 2016 but just as relevant today. My hope is that all Americans can heal and come together in solidarity against the systemic racist & corporate forces that wish to keep us divided. A dream for love in action. How do we live our lives with honor and integrity against the forces of evil & greed. May we love one another. May white people heal their shame, finally deal with our guilt. Finally adequately address their trauma, our collective trauma and truly listen to our black brothers and sisters. Pause. Listen! We can take back this country but only united, not divided. Oppose the military industrial complex. Oppose the systemic racist and predatory corporate economic system. Educate. Listen. Protest. Serve. Listen! Feel your shit. Feel your body. Feel the pain. Stop running from it. Turn off the TV. Breathe. Read the books of our African American leaders. We can not do this alone but much of the work is an inward journey to work with our shadow. Work with the dark forces at play that have blinded us from reality. Distracted us from our common enemy. May all Americans heal and come together to fight the good fight. The just fight with non-violence. Commit to the daily work. The work is hard but we need to think about the day when we take our last breath. What do we want to remember? Did we unite and fight for justice or did we succumb to the current fear and forces that teach us to hate others. Do we remember fighting for all people, colors and creeds or in fear only for those who looked like use or believed like us. Listen. Breathe. Use the breath. Walk. Touch the earth daily. Eat less and less addictive foods. Use less and less drugs. Less and less TV. Consider only watching the TV to educate yourself on what our black brothers and sisters have endured and endure. See the resources posted in the prior post. Take 90 minutes and watch these 2 of my favorite people on this planet speak the truth.
