I am board-certified family medicine physician who looks for and addresses cause rather than merely treating symptoms. We look at what and how you are doing with your Forks, Feet, Fingers, Sleep, Stress & Love – Your 6 Life-Extending Habits.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) subsisting of 60% processed foods, 30% animal products and a mere 10% vegetables, fruits and whole grains will eventually create chronic disease.
With a Lifestyle Medicine approach, we ask and support our patients to increase the good in their life. To increase the essential foods that help the body to heal: Plants! I emphasize a nutrient dense, low fat, oil free, whole food plant-based diet. This is the foundation towards healing. Without this we will always be playing damage control and simply creating and ‘managing’ chronic disease. I didn’t go into medicine to just manage disease. Our goal is to prevent and reverse.
Applying the principles of Functional Medicine we can help you intervene through dietary modification with intestinal support supplementation to help address triggers and potential causes of autoimmune and rheumatologic conditions. This can require an initial strict adherence to the dietary plan. If you are interested in reading more on this approach my colleague, Michael Klaper, MD has an excellent summary article of this approach with links to the Paddison Program which we whole heartedly endorse.
As a traditional osteopathic physician board certified in Osteopathic Manual Medicine, I also use my hands when indicated to address the neuromusculoskeletal system. This system makes up 70% of our body and if not moving appropriately can have a profound negative impact on our well being.
Patient testimonial in regards to osteopathic manual treatment (OMT) :
“My personal experience with OMT is that it has relieved pain and discomfort from decades-old injuries and helped me reach levels of activity I had thought were “past” for me. I routinely walk 8-12 miles, can hike like I did when I was a teenager, and have regained amazing flexibility (in way more than the physical sense… 🙂 ). Thank you Dr. Kyle, for providing a level of care that goes so far beyond “healthcare” that it can much more accurately be called “life care”—and for extending that care to all life. As I said in my letter: “My doctor is not only an excellent, intuitive physician; he is a very important teacher, mentor, and friend.” – N.

I work at this clinic because they do not turn anyone away. They take all insurance. If you work and do not have insurance they will charge on a sliding scale. If you are unemployed and without insurance, there is no cost to you. I think that is pretty cool.
If you are not in the area, I hope you can find the website resources useful and welcome you to take the journey towards your optimal health with a whole food plant-based diet as your foundation.
You can find me on Facebook (search Dr. Kyle Homertgen) as well where I often share articles, recipes etc.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine by thy food.” — Hippocrates
“Osteopathy is a science with possibilities as great as the magnitude of the heavens. It is a science dealing with the natural forces of the body. We work as osteopaths with the traditional principle in mind that the tendency in the patient’s body is always toward the normal. There is much to discover in the science of osteopathy by working with the forces within that manifest the healing processes. These forces within the patient are greater than any blind force that can safely be brought to bear from without.”
